MAO is an ontology for the museum domain, used for describing content such as museum items. MAO is ontologically mapped to the Finnish General Upper Ontology YSO and has been created as part of the FinnONTO-project.
The most important application of MAO is The Semantic Portal for Finnish Culture Kulttuurisampo.

Museoalan ontologia (MAO)
Museoalan ontologia MAO on kehitetty museoalan sisältöjen kuvaamiseen, perustuen Museoalan asiasanastoon MASA. MAO on ontologisesti kytketty Yleiseen suomalaiseen ontologiaan YSO. MAO on kehitetty osana FinnONTO-projektin osana.
Yksi keskeinen MAO:n sovelluskohde on Kulttuurisampo -- Suomalainen kulttuuri semanttisessa webissä.
