National Library Deployed the Finto Ontology Service Based on the Ideas Behind ONKI

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

The ONKI Ontology Service was originally developed and published by SeCo in 2008, and maintaned after this as a national Living Laboratory. During 2013 the National Library of Finland built a permanent, stable, continuously maintained version of the ONKI idea, which has now been released as the Finnish Thesaurus and Ontology Service Finto.

The new brand name Finto can be seen as a tribute to the FinnONTO project during which the ONKI service and its ontologies were developed at SeCo in collaboration with a large consortium of Finnish organizations, including the National Library. The development of Finto has been funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Finance.
