Together with the University Helsinki, SeCo participated in organizing the Heldig Kick-off Symposium, Oct 5, 2016, of the new Heldig centre for digital humanities in Helsinki. The event had well over 200 registered participants.
He will continue also as a professor in Aalto and direct SeCo. This new collaboration will strengthen the collaboration between the University of Helsinki and Aalto University in multidisciplinary Digital Humanities research and education:
The paper Linked Death – Representing, Publishing, and Using Second World War Death Records as Linked Open Data got the Best Paper Award at the 1st Workshop on Humanities in the Semantic Web – WHiSe at ESWC 2016.
The WarSampo semantic portal and
linked data service about the Second World War in Finland

A new project starts at SeCo, where a data service
for publishing linked open scientific data is created and applied
in three case studies. The project is part of the national
Open Data Science and Research initiative of the Ministry of
Education and Culture. More information
Apps4Finland – Doing Good with Open Data is a major Finnish
computer science and programming competition, with 132 participating works in 2014.
SeCo’s work Linked Data Finland with Tools and Applications,
submitted by Eero Hyvönen, Jouni Tuominen, and Eetu Mäkelä,
was awarded with two first prices, winning the categories
Open Science and Research and Data Production and Refinement.
