Step 6: Item View, Semantic Browsing

After selecting a collection item, the whole view changes to accommodate information pertaining to that item. Furthermore, the semantic browsing functionality of the user interface becomes available.

On the left, the image(s) of the item are shown. In the center, we have the metadata of the item: first the free-text description fields and then the semantic category information that has been mined out from them. On the right, reside multiple sets of recommendation links for semantic browsing.

The semantic recommendations reveal additional implicit information hidden in the collection metadata: semantic relationships between items based on their context. For example, the links under the heading "Same user" (Sama käyttäjä) link the decoration with other artifacts used by the same actor, here a person named Hilkka Rahikainen-Haapman. The name of the person in addition to the set heading explain to the user the reason for the recommendation.

Further below, there is also a link to a Christmas calendar (joulukalenteri:adventtikalenteri) under the heading "Items related by a common theme". The recommendation is based on the fact that both artifacts are used during Christmas time, identified by the label Christmas (joulu). Follow this link by clicking on it.
