Step 2: Refining a Search

You have now chosen Europe from the category Place of Usage. The MuseumFinland interface has changed to show the search results corresponding to your category selection.

The items matching your chosen restriction are shown on the right, grouped according to the subcategories of your selection. In this case, the view shows all artifacts used in some European location, specifically Italy, Russia, France, Sweden, and Finland.

The view facets are reorganized on the left. You can refine your search further by choosing any category in any view as an additional constraint. The hit counts of the categories have been updated and further constraints leading to empty sets filtered out, giving direct hints on how further constraints will affect the size of the result set.

Let's assume that you are interested especially in furnishing items used in Europe. Then choose the additional constraint of furnishings (sisustus (190) from the Artifact Type (Esinetyyppi) facet to go along with your restriction Place of Usage = Europe.
